The main campaign contributors


Headroom has teamed up with psychologists and mental health charities to provide the best possible advice to users, many of whom will contribute to the campaign over the forthcoming months. Kicking off the campaign, the core contributors will be:

Ìý

Ruby Wax – host of Ruby's Room

Ìý

Having originally studied psychology at the University of California, American comedienne, Ruby Wax started her professional career as an actress with the RSC, before discovering her penchant for interviewing people with hilarious consequences, making her one of the biggest comedy names in the UK.

Ìý

She starred in several sitcoms, performed stand-up and hosted her own chat show, before finally taking a break from the world of showbiz and doing something altogether more personal: she has since completed her training as a psychotherapist and continues her studies towards her MA in neuroscience.

Ìý

It is in this capacity that she joins the Headroom team, acting as online agony aunt, presenting Ruby's Room in her own inimitable style.

Ìý

Kathy Sykes – presenter of Headroom's Wellbeing Guides

Ìý

Kathy is Professor of Sciences and Society at Bristol University.

Ìý

She has a background in science communication and is a regular contributor to ´óÏó´«Ã½ television and radio programmes.

Ìý

Most recently she presented the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Two series Alternative Therapies with the Open University.

Ìý

Her previous credits include Alternative Medicine (´óÏó´«Ã½ Two/Open University), Rough Science (´óÏó´«Ã½ Two/Open University) and Mind Games (´óÏó´«Ã½ Four).

Ìý

Some of Kathy's achievements include helping to create a hands-on science centre, Explore; a new Festival of Science in Cheltenham; and Famelab, a national competition, which talent-spots and trains new faces in science communication.

Ìý

Kathy is a member of the Council for Science and Technology (CST), the Government's top-level advisory body on science and technology policy issues. She advises Government and several different funders of science on science engagement issues.

Ìý

She has a PhD in Physics.

Ìý

Nick Jankel – producer of the Headroom Tent

Ìý

Nick is a leadership coach, practical philosopher and social entrepreneur. He is a leadership and life coach for MTV and ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 1.

Ìý

Nick is the architect behind multimedia empowerment toolkits and experiences that have been used all over the world from Nigeria to Coventry, at Europe's largest free festival, on RadioÌý1 and at The Big Chill Festival.

Ìý

He has worked with many individuals, organisations and communities to create breakthrough change, from Orange and Diageo to the NHS and The Co-operative Group.

Ìý

Professor Peter Kinderman – Clinical Psychologist and creator of the Mind Spa zones

Ìý

Peter Kinderman is Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Liverpool, and an honorary Consultant Clinical Psychologist with Mersey Care NHS Trust.

Ìý

His research activity and clinical work concentrate on serious and enduring mental disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and personality disorder.

Ìý

He has trained and supervises the research activity and clinical work of psychologists, psychiatrists and other mental health professionals.

Ìý

Professor Kinderman advised on the development of Headroom Mind Spa.

Ìý

Dr Marcia Worrell – Senior Psychology Lecturer and Wellbeing Guides Adviser

Ìý

Dr Marica Worrell is senior psychology lecturer at Roehampton University and advised on Headroom Wellbeing Guides which are presented by Kathy Sykes.
