Graham Norton is one of the most prolific presenters on British television. He has enjoyed success with a string of acclaimed talent and entertainment shows on ´óÏó´«Ã½ One, beginning with Strictly Dance Fever and The Bigger Picture in 2005/6, and continuing with his highly popular ´óÏó´«Ã½ chat show, now in its ninth series.
But it was with hosting How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?, Any Dream Will Do and I'd Do Anything, following Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber's search for new talent for the West End stage, that saw Graham established as a firm favourite with Saturday night viewers.
In 2009 he followed in the footsteps of the talent show hopefuls and, returning to his beginnings as a comedy actor, took on the role of Albin in the West End's acclaimed revival of La Cage Aux Folles. He also hosted Your Country Needs You, which sought a new star for the Eurovision stage, and Over The Rainbow, the search for a new Dorothy for the West End stage.
This year his ever-popular The Graham Norton Show moved from ´óÏó´«Ã½ Two to ´óÏó´«Ã½ One and will feature Blue debuting the first performance of their Eurovision entry single I Can.
"In the bleak mid-winter it isn't the thought of daffodils, cherry blossoms and lambs coming out of the oven that cheer me. What gets me through is thinking about that moment in May when I'm sat in a small dark room, the lights go down and the reassuring strains of the Eurovision Anthem fill the air.
"Even the most hardened Euro-sceptic couldn't help but be swept away by the tidal wave of fake tan, manmade fibres and traditional instruments that then follows.
"The Eurovision Song Contest is always much greater than just the sum of its parts. This is event television and while it is easy to laugh at it, equally it seems simple to take it far too seriously as well. I fall somewhere in the middle.
"While I love the camp spectacle I also acknowledge that every year there are a handful of really beautiful songs and extraordinary performances.
"This year Blue will be flying the flag for the UK in Dusseldorf with I Can. Well, 'I Can' predict we won't come last, in fact 'I Can' see us doing rather well.
"The boys have sold over 13 million albums and have toured Europe so hopefully the fan base is there and the votes will follow. Whatever happens, come on UK, let's send them off with a cheery wave rather than a cynical scowl. Share the Eurovision!"
