Clare Balding presents live coverage of the 2010 Grand National from Aintree – one of the biggest days in the British sporting calendar.

Forty horses will attempt to jump 30 fences, with the emphasis on speed, strength and stamina – and who wins is anyone's guess as there's always a story to come from the gruelling four-and-a-half mile marathon.

Last year, 100-1 shot Mon Mome provided a shock victory for trainer Venetia Williams and jockey Liam Treadwell. So whatever the weather, or the conditions, the world's greatest steeplechase always provides high drama.

Joining Clare in presenting the afternoon's action is Rishi Persad, with expert opinion coming from former Grand National-winning jockeys Mick Fitzgerald and Richard Dunwoody. John Parrott and Gary Wiltshire bring expert insight from the betting ring and commentary comes from Jim McGrath, Ian Bartlett and Darren Owen.

The Grand National is off at 4.15pm. Supplementing the big race is a very strong undercard of four other live races.

Richard Hammond and Amanda Byram return as 20 everyday human lemmings tackle the silliest obstacle course on the planet. The winner, as ever, is crowned Total Wipeout champion and walks away with £10,000.

This week contenders include a can-can teacher, a William Shakespeare enthusiast and one of Britain's youngest magistrates, who all tackle the Qualifier with a brand-new obstacle: The Rake In The Face. It's a game of plank-roulette as some of the padded beams fly up and hit the unsuspecting contestants in the face. Victims include Chris, a professional events manager who manages a very professional face-plant, and Darren Brown, who wears a "headband of illusion".

Along with the staple diet of Sucker Punch and Big Balls, the Cradles Of Doom make an appearance for the second time this series. They gently rock the contestants to the finish line – or, in most cases, send them spinning into the murky waters below.

Following a nail-biting climax to Crash Mountain, the five Dizzy Dummies are faced with the all-new Pyramid Beams and the Barrel Bridge. Dirty tactics come into play as the five desperately scramble for a place in the final round.

A dramatic finale follows as the Wipeout Zone has the fastest run of the series so far.

Graham Norton and Andrew Lloyd Webber continue the search for Dorothy

Andrew Lloyd Webber and host Graham Norton continue their search for a new West End star, as the potential Dorothys go head to head in the second live show. The panel of experts – Charlotte Church, John Partridge and Sheila Hancock – are on hand alongside Andrew to pick out the highs and lows of each performance, as the nationwide search for a Dorothy to fill the ruby red slippers continues.

The remaining 10 Dorothys take to the stage once again as they try to impress the judges and the viewers at home, and the search for Toto also gets under way...

The public vote for their favourites and Andrew decides which Dorothy will be hanging up her ruby slippers and who will be continuing on her journey down the yellow brick road.

Adam is both frustrated and moved when he treats a small boy from a broken family after a poisoning incident. When one of the children leaves a toy behind, Adam returns it to his home and enjoys being surrounded by the warmth of their family life. Will the boys' mother, Lyn, be able to offer Adam some of the comfort he so desperately needs?

Jordan is thrilled to receive a DVD from his student days from former college mate Frances. But when Kieron spots his mother on the DVD he is even more anxious for information and goes behind Jordan's back to seek answers from Frances. Hugely frustrated when Frances's memories differ from Jordan's, Kieron drives home recklessly and crashes his motorbike...

Ray Coulthard plays Matt, Sunetra Sarker plays Zoe, Tristan Gemmill plays Adam, Robert Boulter plays Kieron and Michael French plays Jordan. This episode guest stars Liz May Brice as Lyn and Josette Simon as Frances.

Raising The Armada Ep 1/2

A famous victory, a devastating fire and the recreation of some iconic art – in Raising The Armada, ´óÏó´«Ã½ deputy political editor James Landale tells how, after more than 150 years, the Spanish Armada is finally returning to the Palace of Westminster.

In 1588, English commanders saw off the mighty invasion fleet assembled by Philip II of Spain – a triumph which laid the foundations of Britain's Naval power.

Ten giant tapestries depicting key scenes from the campaign were displayed in the old House of Lords. They were as symbolic of Parliament as Big Ben is today. But their tale was lost when the entire building burnt down in 1834.

Prince Albert, consort of Queen Victoria, wanted six tapestries to be recreated on canvas – to hang in a specially designed room next to the new Lords chamber. But work was halted by his death in 1861, with only one painting completed.

James Landale explains how the efforts of a House of Lords researcher – and £330,000 of private sponsorship – have now helped persuade peers to revive the project.

In the first of a two-part series, Raising The Armada follows artist Anthony Oakshett and his team in their studio at Wrest Park as they create five paintings to match the one Victorian example.

And the programme also hears the tale of the one tapestry which escaped the flames – and its probable fate.

In the second episode, ´óÏó´«Ã½ Parliament will report on the installation of the paintings in the House of Lords.

They are due to go on public display in the Royal Gallery in June, before being fixed high up on the walls of the Prince's Chamber in autumn 2010.
