Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman star in Sherlock

The world's favourite detective has emerged from the fog. With sparkling scripts and unforgettable performances from the two leads, Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) and Martin Freeman (John Watson), this is Sherlock for a new generation.

Sherlock Holmes was always a modern man. It's the world that got old. Now he's back as he should be: edgy, contemporary, difficult 鈥 and dangerous 鈥 in three new dramas on 大象传媒 One.

Watson, a doctor, soldier and war hero, is fresh from military service in Afghanistan. A chance encounter brings him into the world of Sherlock Holmes, a loner, detective and genius. The two men couldn't be more different, but Sherlock's inspired leaps of intellect, coupled with John's pragmatism, soon forge an unbreakable alliance.

A woman in pink lies dead in a derelict house, the fourth in a series of impossible suicides. DI Lestrade is the best Scotland Yard has got, but even he knows he can't compare to the young man who can tell a software designer by his tie or an airline pilot by his thumb.

Sherlock has a unique analytical mind, earning his living and staving off boredom by solving crimes. The weirder and more baffling the better...

Across three thrilling, scary, action-packed and hugely entertaining episodes, Sherlock and John navigate a maze of cryptic clues and lethal killers to get at the truth.

Sherlock Holmes is played by Benedict Cumberbatch, John Watson by Martin Freeman, Mrs Hudson by Una Stubbs, Inspector Lestrade by Rupert Graves, Molly Hooper by Louise Brealey and Sargeant Sally Donovan by Vinette Robinson.

Sherlock is simulcast on the 大象传媒 HD channel 鈥 the 大象传媒's High Definition channel, available through Freesat 108, Freeview 50, Sky 143 and Virgin 108

Suspense for one contestant trying to avoid a quick exit

Steve Jones and co-host Nemone return as eight more contestants try to avoid exiting the biggest, most terrifying multiple-choice quiz in the world.

Seven hopefuls are literally fired off the gigantic steel tower with nothing; the last person standing wins the ultimate prize, to leave via the stairs holding 拢10,000.

This week's contestants include a firefighter, a police sergeant and a relationship counsellor; all trying to avoid exiting the show in ever-more ridiculous and horrific ways.

This week firefighter Adam needs all his courage when he is sitting in a chair, 100ft in the air for Exit 42: Glued To Your Seat.

Swansea student Ben realises that you shouldn't always take your friends' advice as he takes on Exit 33 鈥 the losing contestant is dragged 80ft off the tower by a cartoon-style "Evil Anvil".

With the field narrowed to four hopefuls the nightmare steps up a gear with Exit 90: The Drag. Four metal cages are connected to a racing car, and the contestant with the wrong answer is launched at high speed down a race track and off the show forever.

Night falls and the last three players return to the tower for the final. Two losers face a watery demise in Exit 101 as the trapdoors open and their hopes of victory slip away. The winner stays dry, safe and 拢10,000 richer.

When Jackson escapes from the Emergency Department with Adam's car keys the doctor is implicated in his escape. Can Adam track down the highly dangerous prisoner and how does Jackson hold the key to Adam's recovery?

Miracle On The Mersey

Saturday 24 July
7.00-9.00pm 大象传媒 TWO

Katie Derham presents coverage of the 大象传媒 Proms 2010 as Vasily Petrenko takes to the podium to conduct the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in music by Schumann and Tchaikovsky, inspired by Byron's poem Manfred, and Rachmaninov's 2nd Piano Concerto with soloist Simon Trp膷eski.

Inspired by Lord Byron's dramatic poem, Schumann provided incidental music which captures the story's ghostly, brooding atmosphere, while Tchaikovsky wrote a symphony in the style of tone poem, one of his most highly charged and theatrical orchestral works. Guilt, death, religion and temptation are the Byronic themes depicted by both composers in their works, which arguably gave the moody protagonist much more fame than the original poem would have done alone.

The RLPO is joined by Macedonian pianist and former Radio 3 New Generation Artist Simon Trp膷eski to perform the ever-popular Piano Concerto No. 2 by Rachmaninov. At the helm is Liverpool's own adopted hero Vasily Petrenko.

ADULT SEASON
Baby Beauty Queens 鈥 Amber And Eden Ep 1/6

New series
Tuesday 27 July
8.30-9.00pm 大象传媒 THREE

From sashes and tiaras to diamante eyelashes and spray tans, 大象传媒 Three dives extensions first into the burgeoning world of the UK's child beauty pageant industry in this new, six-part series.

Exploring the pressures on young people to grow up too quickly, Baby Beauty Queens shines a spotlight on life for aspiring pageant queens and child models in an image-obsessed Britain.

Today's opening episode features seven-year-old Amber and six-year-old Eden as they prepare to become two of the youngest competitors in Mini Miss UK, while their motivated mothers Sally and Fathom go head-to-head in the Yummy Mummy section.

Amber has never entered a pageant before, but she is serious about fashion, and won't be told what to wear by anyone. Sally supports her daughter in whatever she wants to do, but she also believes she's got the looks to make it too. She's fiercely competitive and she wants her daughter to win, so she makes sure she has the best dresses, best make-up and has the best "talent". Mother and daughter's strong personalities mean sparks fly when it comes to making decisions about the pageant.

Eden has been brought up on catwalks as her mum, Fathom, owns a bespoke dress shop. She's won talent competitions with her singing, so she's expecting to do well this time round. Fathom thinks there's nothing wrong with entering a pageant, as long as the competition element isn't taken too far. She feels the pageant is preparing Eden for life and giving her experiences that will enrich her and give her confidence.

But will the two young girls have the talent and temperament to succeed in the competition and, more importantly, how will they cope with the results?

Baby Beauty Queens is part of 大象传媒 Three's Adult Season.

Clare Balding cycles through the Welsh borders this week
Clare Balding cycles through the Welsh borders this week

Clare Balding heads westwards as she continues her pedal-powered odyssey across Britain, rediscovering the magical world of Fifties cycling by following the tracks of author Harold Briercliffe.

Briercliffe, who wrote landmark guidebooks The Cycling Touring Guides, noted the local tradition of The Bride's Tree during his original visit to Aston-on-Clun, which is the start of Clare's journey through the Welsh borders. This centuries-old custom involves villagers decorating a black poplar tree every 29 May by tying coloured cloths to the branches.

Heading westwards, Clare travels through the rolling countryside immortalised in AE Housman's A Shropshire Lad, towards Clunton where a quick left turn takes her to Cwm House. It was here that author Bruce Chatwin found the inspiration for one of his greatest books, On The Black Hill, when he stayed in 1979.

Next, Clare pedals back to Clun where Briercliffe had commented on the strange 17th-century costume worn by the locals. They were almsmen of Trinity Hospital, a charitable institution set up to provide homes for agricultural workers who lost their tied cottages on retiring after a lifetime working the land. Clare meets the almshouse warden, Reverend Richard Shaw, and discovers they are still operating today.

Back on her bike 鈥 or rather Harold Briercliffe's bike 鈥 Clare heads towards the Welsh border via Newcastle and Kerry, crossing the magnificent ancient earthwork Offa's Dyke to her final destination, Newtown. This was formerly the location for one of Britain's biggest cycle manufacturers.

Here, Clare meets local cycling ace Barry Hoban, who was one of Britain's most successful Tour de France competitors, and learns of the factory's secret life making Second World War armaments.

The Great Outdoors Ep 1/3

New seriesHigh Definition programme
Wednesday 28 July
9.00-9.30pm 大象传媒 FOUR and 大象传媒 HD

Going for a nice walk in the British countryside: millions of people do it. It should be the simplest thing in the world 鈥 but for Bob, Christine and their friends, it never is. The Great Outdoors is a brand-new, three-part comedy written by Andy Riley and Kevin Cecil which follows the hikes, heartaches, friendships and rivalries of a misfit rambling club. There are lovely views, stolen kisses, packed lunches ... and punch-ups.

Each episode follows a single one-day walk. In this first instalment, Bob begins a titanic battle of wills with the newest member, Christine, for the heart and soul of his treasured walking group. She is freshly arrived from Barnstaple, exiled for a rambling crime she won't speak about. Christine's got a GPS and a lot of state-of-the-art hiking socks; technophobic Bob quickly marks her out as a nemesis in breathable fabrics.

Meanwhile, Bob's teenage daughter Hazel is mortified at the arrival of geeky Victor from her school. Then there is married couple Joe and Sophie. She comes on these walks to relax, but they do tend to get a bit stressful, and now Sophie's looking for another release in her life 鈥 which might be Victor.

As the lives of the walkers intertwine, they must face perhaps the greatest horror lurking in the British countryside 鈥 the previously cosy village pub which has "gone gastro". How will the group be able to afford lunch at 拢20 for a main meal, and will the tensions blow Bob's precious group apart for ever?

For Bob and Christine, each at a crossroads in their life, a small thing like a walking club can take on epic importance. Every episode of The Great Outdoors is a voyage of personal discovery 鈥 like a miniature road movie, but with sturdy footwear instead of a car.

Matt Allwright presents The聽Secret聽Tourist

Matt Allwright and his team go undercover in hotels, reveal tourist scams and research potential safety hazards in popular holiday destinations around the world, in 大象传媒 One's new consumer holiday series, The Secret Tourist.

In the first episode, Matt sends a British family to an all-inclusive resort in the Dominican Republic to find out if bad reports from some tourists are really true. Kitted out with secret cameras, the family goes undercover to investigate the hotel's facilities. With help from the series' environmental health expert, Dr Lisa Ackerley, the secret tourists make some shocking revelations about the health, hygiene and safety of the resort. These include finding salmonella and E.coli in the food and the Legionella pathogen in the hot water, posing a risk of Legionnaires disease. Matt then visits the resort to put these findings directly to the hotel management.

Reporter Carole Machin investigates holiday doctors on the Spanish island of Tenerife, after reports of some of them over-treating and over-charging tourists. Trying them out for herself, will the healthy undercover reporter be given expensive and unnecessary treatment?

Con artists can strike in any holiday destination. This week, Matt reveals a trick they have been known to pull on unsuspecting tourists 鈥 a fake day-trip scam. With Matt's insider tips, travellers will be better prepared to avoid getting conned themselves.

The Secret Tourist team research the holidays from hell, so viewers don't have to.

大象传媒 PROMS 2010
Prom 16

Thursday 29 July
7.30-9.20pm 大象传媒 FOUR

Charles Hazlewood continues 大象传媒 Four's coverage of the 大象传媒 Proms 2010 as the CBSO and Andris Nelsons perform Wagner's Rienzi Overture and Dvo艡谩k 's New World symphony, joining Paul Lewis to play Beethoven's 2nd piano concerto.

Tonight, pianist Paul Lewis continues his cycle of all five of Beethoven's piano concertos, with No. 2 in B flat major. Beethoven revised it many times before it was published. He was developing the form and there is still a youthful feel about this concerto, looking back in style to that of his forbearers such as Haydn and Mozart.

Lewis is joined by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra under its Latvian music director, Andris Nelsons. The Beethoven concerto is sandwiched between Wagner's lively overture to Rienzi (which opened the very first prom in 1895) and the ever popular New World symphony by Dvorak.

Sally (Jane Asher) moves in with Tom (Roger Lloyd Pack, left) and Roy (Clive Swift)

Tom and Roy find themselves with a new lodger, Sally, when a burst pipe forces her to get the builders in. The rivalry between Tom and Roy escalates a level, as the comedy series about two elderly delinquents continues.

Rajan sees an opportunity to step in and take Sally on a few "dates", a term fiercely disputed by Tom.

The old guys' lazy afternoon nap is cut short when Sally interrupts in her dressing gown; a burst water pipe has ruined her bathroom, could she trouble them to finish her shower in their bathroom? Tom and Roy readily agree, thrilled finally that Sally is in their house and, more excitingly, naked! It's a dream come true.

Sally's insurers agree to send the builders in which leaves her with another favour to ask of the guys 鈥 to move into their house on a temporary basis until the work is complete: a week at most. In preparation for Sally's arrival, Tom and Roy send themselves into a frenzy of pillow fluffing and scented candle placing in a bid to make everything perfect for the arrival of their new lodger.

Things go into overdrive as Tom and Roy fall over each other to impress Sally and can't do enough to please her, which in turn brings them to the decision that they can't let her go at the end of the week, and the two hatch a plan to delay the builder and extend Sally's stay.

All is going well but Tom and Roy's best behaviour to impress their guest is short-lived. While Sally goes along with the heavy breakfasts and high teas, she struggles to cope with the formality and constant mealtimes, so decides to accept Rajan's offers of trips away from the house.

Finally, in a bid to get the bathroom finished and Sally back into her own house, Tom and Roy decide enough is enough and finish it off themselves.

Tom is played by Roger Lloyd Pack, Roy by Clive Swift and Sally by Jane Asher.

Ekaterina Gubanova sings Mahler

Suzy Klein hosts 大象传媒 Four's coverage of the 18th Prom from the Albert Hall, featuring the return of the Australian Youth Orchestra with music by Brett Dean, songs by Mahler with Ekaterina Gubanova as soloist, and Shostakovich's powerful 10th Symphony.

Youth orchestras have played an important part in the Proms for many years and the first of this year's visitors has travelled the furthest. The Australian Youth Orchestra brings with it music by its compatriot Brett Dean (who is also a former viola player in the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra) and by Shostakovich. His powerful 10th Symphony includes coded references both to his own love for a young woman and also to the brutality of Joseph Stalin, who died in the year the symphony was composed.

The orchestra and conductor Sir Mark Elder are also joined by young Russian mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Gubanova for some of Mahler's songs 鈥 settings of poems from the folk-based collection Des knaben wunderhorn (The Youth's Magic Horn).

The London premi猫re of Brett Dean's Amphitheatre and Mahler's Des Knaben Wunderhorn can be heard before the interval, followed by Shostakovich's Symphony No. 10 in E minor.
