Connie feels on top of her game but then a stranger in her office turns out to be the new joint director of surgery, Henrik Hanssen, as the medical drama continues. However, Connie is defiant – she doesn't do job share!

Setting out to make sure Hanssen knows who is top dog, she outlines her visionary presentation to the Board. But she is humiliated when Hanssen publicly dismisses her plans. And when Connie watches from the wings as Hanssen gathers the hospital together, telling them that there will be tough times ahead, she realises a new King of Holby has been born.

Joseph can't help but feel compassion for the grieving, pregnant Faye and dismisses Jac's cynical view of her. But Joseph can't ignore Faye's capacity for manipulation and is shocked when she tells him Linden is the father of her child. Reeling from this lie, Joseph knows he cannot trust Faye and decides to treat her with kid gloves.

Social pariah Michael finds it hard to keep his chin up when the Spence charm doesn't work on Hanssen. Vowing not to be beaten, Michael sets his sights on selling himself as the saviour of the hospital via Holby Care. But Hanssen has a different plan for him.

Tess (Fiona Button) is over the moon but gets let down

Frankie tries to unravel the mystery of her past; fate offers Cat a second chance with Sam; and Tess learns new love Lou isn't ready to go public about their relationship as the seductive new relationship drama continues.

Emotions run high at the funeral of Frankie's Aunt Carol. Treated like an outsider by her Uncle Cameron, Frankie causes a scene. And when her cousin Karen explains Carol sent Frankie's childhood photo album to someone before she died, Frankie is left confused.

Cat regrets her decision to accompany Frankie to the funeral and leaves the wake feeling humiliated, only to fall victim to a teenage thief who snatches her mobile.

When Cat gives chase, she ends up being arrested for assault and is further embarrassed when she comes face-to-face with Sam at the police station. But every cloud has a silver lining and the encounter leads to a second chance with Sam.

An excited Tess is over the moon after Lou gets her a job as TV runner – regular money and the chance to see more of the woman of her dreams. But it soon becomes clear that Lou wants to keep their relationship hidden.

To try and coax Lou out of the closet, Tess asks her over for dinner with Cat and Ed. Much to Ed's disgust, Tess goes to great lengths to impress but it's a wasted effort as Lou cancels at the last minute.

On hearing that Cat has another date with Sam, a jealous Frankie turns up at her door. But she is snubbed, so Frankie decides to spend some time alone – until her head is turned by an alluring stranger, Sadie, shoplifting in a bookstore. Sadie knows she's been spotted and thinks Frankie will turn her in, but she's got other plans.

A night of seduction follows at Jay's flat but afterwards Frankie makes her feelings clear – she'd like Sadie to leave. And when Frankie wakes the next day she discovers Sadie has disappeared... taking a very expensive gift Jay bought for Becky with her.

Mark Gatiss takes the lead role as Edwardian scientist Professor Cavor in his own adaptation of HG Wells's science fiction classic, The First Men In The Moon.

It's July 1969 and as the world waits with bated breath for news of the Apollo 11 astronauts, a young boy meets 90-year-old Julius Bedford who tells an extraordinary story of two men's journey to the Moon, in 1909.

As a young man, Bedford chances to meet Professor Cavor, a somewhat unworldly scientist with an amazing invention called Cavorite. Anything to which it is applied becomes opaque to the force of gravity. Knowing a miracle when he sees one and with a keen eye on profit, Bedford encourages Cavor to think big. And so the two men construct a copper and cast-iron sphere which will fly them to the Moon. But what terrors await them in the lunar interior? And will they ever succeed in returning to Earth?

Mark Gatiss plays Professor Cavor and Rory Kinnear plays Julius Bedford. The cast also includes Alex Riddell as Jim, the inquisitive boy listening to Bedford's story. Jim's father is played by Peter Forbes and his mother played by Katherine Jakeways. Lee Ingleby plays Chessocks and Julia Deakin plays Mrs Fitt.

To coincide with the adaptation of Wells's thrilling science-fiction romance, ´óÏó´«Ã½ Archive is releasing a collection of national radio broadcast excerpts from the future-facing father of science. HG Wells On The Future provides a unique insight into the genius of the author and sometime broadcaster, revealing his prophetic sense of the changes technological advance would bring. The fascinating collection is available from 15 October at bbc.co.uk/archive.
