‘Elaborate state visits shouldn’t be gifted to misogynists,’ says MP

3 June 2019

The UK should not be “rolling out the red carpet” for Donald Trump, says Kirsty Blackman MP.

Speaking on Debate Night the night before the US President’s arrival, the SNP’s Deputy Leader at Westminster said the US President’s values on immigration and attitude towards women are “abhorrent” and “dragging America Backwards”.

Ms Blackman was challenged on whether her opinion of Trump’s red carpet treatment extended to other world leaders who may be deemed controversial.

“Anybody who has abhorrent values – individuals who have got misogynist points of view – I wouldn’t be welcoming anybody that has those views.”
