Gardening magazine. With summer on the horizon and everything in the garden growing like fury, there is plenty to be getting on with in the garden at the moment and Gardeners' World has some timely advice for borders, veg patches, boggy areas and even compost heaps.
Plants which thrive in the moist conditions of pond margins are looking at their best right now and Toby Buckland recommends varieties which not only add a splash of colour but also have great foliage.
Once tulips have finished flowering, the remaining foliage is ugly and takes up valuable growing space in our borders. Joe Swift has advice on how to care for them whether they are lifted and stored or kept in the ground and he also suggests summer flowering bulbs and bedding to fill the floral gap they leave behind.
Asparagus is not just a vegetable crop that fills the supermarket shelves in summer, it also has relatives which fill borders and containers with foliage and flowers. Carol Klein investigates this diverse and fascinating family and revels in some of its members which have found a home in her garden at Glebe Cottage.
Weeds are also high on the garden black-list in June as their rampant growth can quickly smother vegetable crops. Joe visits a local allotment to meet some experienced growers and discovers the steps they take to banish even the most invasive weeds from their plots.
Garden and kitchen waste can easily be turned into 'black gold' for the garden with a little know-how. In his family garden, Toby passes on his own tried and tested tips on making compost bins, he's got advice on what raw materials to use and, crucially, what not to use. With a little effort, waste can be transformed into rich, nutritious compost within weeks.
