Equality amongst Asian men and women
Are men and women treated as equals in Asian cultures? And is going back home really a holiday?
At 1- Are men and women treated as equals in asian cultures?
The Chief Minister in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has recently announced a month long campaign focusing on crimes against women. If you've been listening to our news bulletins over the past weeks you'll have heard that the campaign follows a spate of rapes in the state.
Now these are clearly extreme examples of the ill treatment women face, but on a more superficial level are there still problems in the general way in which asian men treat women?
Campaigners in Uttar Pradesh say that women in the state remain marginalised and oppressed. But in less obvious ways is this true of Asian women in the UK? Do sons, for example, still get favoured over daughters? Are both dads and brothers far too controlling over their daughters and sisters? Or are they simply being protective?
After 2- Is going back home really a holiday? Can you really kick back and relax? Or is it the time when feuding family matters and financial issues come to the surface?
