Litir 657: D霉ghall Bochanan - P脿irt 4

Nochd an leabhar Beatha agus Iompachadh Dh霉ghaill Bhochanain ochd bliadhn鈥 deug mus d鈥 fhuair am b脿rd spioradail b脿s ann an seachd ceud deug, seasgad 鈥檚 a h-ochd (1768). Cha do rinn D霉ghall cunntas air a ph貌sadh. Airson sin, feumar tionndadh don chunntas mu a bheatha ann an leabhar eile 鈥 Laoidhean Spioradail Dh霉ghaill Bhochanain, The Spiritual Songs of Dugald Buchanan a chaidh a dheasachadh leis an Urramach D貌mhnall MacIlleathain. St猫idhich MacIlleathain an iris aige air a鈥 chiad iris a rinneadh le D霉ghall fh猫in. Nochd Laoidhean Spioradail an toiseach ann an seachd ceud deug, seasgad 鈥檚 a seachd (1767).

听听听听听听听听听听听 Bha creideamh air D霉ghall a chur tro 脿mhghar. Cha do chuidich Ar-a-mach nan Seumasach e. Bha e an aghaidh adhbhar a鈥 Phrionnsa, ach bha e air a sgreamhachadh leis mar a chaidh saighdearan G脿idhealach 鈥 a mhuinntir fh猫in 鈥 a chur gu b脿s gu neo-thr貌caireach ann an Cair Luail. Air an d脿rna l脿imh, bha e ag iarraidh dioghaltas a dh猫anamh 脿s an leth. Air an l脿imh eile, bha e ag iarraidh maitheanas Cr矛osdail a thoirt do na murtairean cuideachd.

听听听听听听听听听听听 鈥橲 ann timcheall air seachd ceud deug is caogad (1750) a fhuair e fois spioradail. Bha sin bliadhna 脿s d猫idh dha p貌sadh. B鈥 i a bhean Mairead Brisbane, nighean b脿illidh-fearainn Iarla Louden. Chaidh iad a dh鈥檉huireach air tuathanas athair Dh霉ghaill. Ach cha do ch貌rd sin ri D霉ghall agus th貌isich e air teagasg a dh猫anamh. Ann an seachd ceud deug, caogad 鈥檚 a tr矛 (1753) ghabh e dreuchd mar thidsear ann an Ceann Loch Raineach. D脿 bhliadhna 脿s d猫idh sin, fhuair e obair mar Cheistear anns an sg矛re sin.

听听听听听听听听听听听 Choisinn D霉ghall cli霉 dha fh猫in mar bh脿rd spioradail agus mar shoisgeulaiche. Bha muinntir Raineach, agus Cl猫ir Dh霉n Chailleann, ga iarraidh mar mhinistear. Ach sheas 脿rd-urrachan na h-Eaglaise na rathad. Dh鈥檉huirich e na Cheistear.

听听听听听听听听听听听 Bhathar ag aithneachadh a sgoilearachd, ge-t脿. Chaidh iarraidh air rian a chumail air an eadar-theangachadh a bha an t-Urramach Seumas Sti霉bhart 脿 Cill Fhinn a鈥 d猫anamh dhen Tiomnadh Nuadh. Ghluais e a Dh霉n 脠ideann airson sin. Fhad 鈥檚 a bha e sa bhaile mh貌r, dh鈥檉hoillsich e a鈥 chiad iris de na laoidhean spioradail aige. Bhiodh e cuideachd a鈥 searmonachadh do Gh脿idheil a bha a鈥 fuireach ann an D霉n 脠ideann.

听听听听听听听听听听听 Chaidh e gu clasaichean aig an oilthigh agus thachair e ri cuid de na sgoilearan inntinneach a bha pailt sa bhaile sin aig an 脿m. A r猫ir aithris, thachair e ri Daibhidh Hume, am feallsanaiche is sgoilear, nach robh a鈥 taobhadh ris an Eaglais. Dh霉bhlanaich Hume am b脿rd G脿idhealach gus p矛os sgr矛obhaidh diadhaidh aithris a bha cho math ris an Tempest Earrann 4 le Shakespeare.

听听听听听听听听听听听 F脿gaidh mi sibh le p矛os bhon Bh矛oball a dh鈥檃ithris D霉ghall 脿 chuimhne agus a bha Hume ag aideachadh a bha cumhachdach agus s貌laimte. Tha e 脿 Taisbeanadh E貌in, an Diadhair, Caibideil 20, a鈥 t貌iseachadh mar seo: Agus chunnaic mi r矛gh-chathair mh貌r gheal, agus an t矛 a shuidh oirre, neach aig an do theich n猫amh agus talamh o a ghn霉is...

听听听听听听听听听听听 Agus chunnaic mi na mairbh, beag agus m貌r, nan seasamh ann am fianais Dh猫; agus 诲丑鈥檉丑辞蝉驳濒补诲丑 na leabhraichean; agus 诲丑鈥檉丑辞蝉驳濒补诲丑 leabhar eile, eadhon leabhar na beatha; agus thugadh breith air na mairbh 脿s na nithean sin a bha sgr矛obhte sna leabhraichean, a r猫ir an gn矛omharan.

听听听听听听听听听听听 Ach bha D霉ghall fh猫in gu bhith am measg nam marbh an ceann 霉ine nach robh fada, mar a ch矛 sinn an-ath-sheachdain.
