Paul Gambaccini presents tracks from this week's US charts and hits from the last six decades.

Each week, songs are played connected to members of 'The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame'. We hear 'Stand By Me' by Ben E. King in honour of the songwriting/production team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. Paul also plays 'Imagine' to mark the induction of John Lennon as a solo artist. In 'A Matter Of Life And Death', we celebrate the birthday on this date in 1927 of Jim Lowe by playing his American number one 'Green Door'. Paul pays tribute to Patty Duke, who has recently died, by featuring her Top Ten hit 'Don't Just Stand There'. 'It's Not The Same Old Song' highlights 'Candy Girl' by The 4 Seasons and a different song with the same title by New Edition.

In the feature called 'Beyond The Sea', Paul plays a song from a UK artist's biggest-selling album in America. Tonight, we hear tracks from LPs by Van Morrison and Stealers Wheel. 'The Other Number Ones' are records that reached the top of the American chart in 'Cash Box' magazine, but not in the Hot 100 of the other US chart publication 'Billboard'. This week's examples are by Sam & Dave and Captain & Tennille.

Our R&B number ones are from 1976 and now by Brass Construction and Keith Sweat. We hear Country number ones from 2007 and this week by Carrie Underwood and Tim McGraw. Following the death of Prince, his music dominates the charts. The number one album is 'The Very Best Of Prince' and the Number one Rock track and best-selling song of the week is 'Purple Rain'.
