Script

Good morning. On this day in 1945, twenty of Germany's Nazi leaders went on trial in Nuremberg charged with war crimes. It鈥檚 a wonder how many evil things people have managed to carry out in history, and today.

I used to be emotionally fatigued and rather passive, but as I got more in touch with my emotions, I started to become deeply affected by the examples of evil and injustice that surrounded me, especially in the news, but seemingly everywhere. Tragic events would play on my mind for hours on end and the pain of others became my pain. I began to ask questions. Why is this happening? How can it stop? What can I do to help? God, where are you in this?

I also felt a bit ashamed. Evil and injustice have always plagued our world, so why was it only now that I wanted to get up and do something about it? Well, the honest truth is聽 that I did the easy thing, which was to blame God. I couldn鈥檛 fathom why bad things happened to good people. But digging deeper gave me some possible answers that satisfied me.

God is first and foremost our loving Father, not our slave master. He gives us free will to make our own decisions and, along with that, he gave us Jesus as the perfect example to follow. We as humans are imperfect, we tend to go our own way and the result can be聽 a negative impact on the world. Some people may be angry at God for things he has never done. God doesn鈥檛 kill, steal or sell illegal drugs. People do that.

Lord Jesus, help us make moral choices so this world can become a better place. Encourage us to love our neighbors, celebrate our similarities, and embrace our differences. Amen.
