Lion love
Jonathan Scott and Alan Root are watching lions mating on the Serengeti. To smell the female's scent and find out whether the female is in oestrous, the male makes the flehmen face by curling back his top lip. It's a shot that's often cut into wildlife films to make it seem that the lion is snarling when it's actually just smelling scent. It is difficult to know whether a couple of lions are have just begun mating or are coming to an end as they might mate several hundred times over four, five or six days. But as soon as the female gets up and tries to move off, the male will always get up to follow. He can鈥檛 afford to let her out of his sight in case another male comes in.
