Back to the wild
Jonathan Scott and Randall Moore are riding on the back of an elephant called Abu. Like all the elephants being ridden, Abu was not born in the wild. In his case, he was born in South Africa's Kruger Park and then shipped overseas as a baby. Most of the adults were brought back to Botswana from different parts of the world. Abu, for instance, spent a good part of his life in America, Kathy in Toronto, and Bibi spent forty-five years in Sri Lanka. Now all of them have been returned to the wild and, despite not being related, they work together as a family unit. Randall sees it as a far better future than sitting in a zoo in some foreign country, chained up 22 hours a day. The babies are all orphans from South Africa鈥檚 Kruger National Park, their parents having been shot as part of a culling programme to control the elephant population.
