Holland

Bill Oddie visits Holland for some winter birding. He sees a black woodpecker, wild geese, shore larks, snow bunting, long eared owl and snow geese.

Bill Oddie has come to Holland for a long weekend in February, for some classic winter birdng. He sees the black woodpecker, which looks like it comes from the pages of a Grimm's Fairy Tale, and huge flocks of geese. In the world's largest port, Rotterdam, are shore larks and snow buntings. Next it is a long drive north, via flocks of duck including the rare and beautiful smew, and fields full of fieldfare and lots of common buzzards. Finally it is a quick stop-off in the city of Groningen to see a long-eared owl.
