Seal watching
A boat trip is a leisurely way for Bill Oddie to get to Blakeney Point. Birds are not his main objective, but he's happy to see some brent geese. They've spent the winter in Britain and are due to head off to the Arctic Circle now. But they are late leaving, which suggests that they know that it is a late spring and will be still frozen up on the tundra. The main attraction of the trip is to see seals on the mudflats. There are two species here - common seals and Atlantic grey seals. Unfortunately both are greyish so are hard to tell apart. The grey seals have a more haughty look to them, while the common seals have a sweeter face. The big bull Atlantic seal is the biggest British mammal at twice the weight of a red deer.
