Ballet - 'A Simple Man'
An introduction to 'A Simple Man', a ballet choreographed by Gillian Lynne and inspired by the industrial landscape paintings of L.S. Lowry. Also includes interviews with Lowry in which he describes himself as a simple man. A short extract from the ballet shows a group of costumed male dancers gathering for work before performing various stepping patterns and travelling actions across the space. In groups of two and three, the dancers depict heavy machinery by using pushing and pulling motifs. A classical music score supports the piece. The stage setting represents an industrial landscape in the style of a Lowry painting.
