Coding and games design
Chloe visits game development company Media Molecule to meet games designer John Beech. It was learning to build games and sharing the content he produced online that landed John his dream job. John spent hours building levels on 'Little Big Planet' that caught the attention of the games designers and coders.
User generated content is becoming more and more popular and is paving the way for new and exciting games designers to break through.
More and more games incorporate mechanics for producing content. John explains these mechanics called ‘scripts’ or game logic - as a simplified form of code. John shows Chloe the visual graphics that represent lines of code, the scripting allows users to navigate and design the game. This teaches people ‘if’ and ‘and’ statements, which forms the basis of code.
John works closely with programmers to design his games but has begun teaching himself base level code, to take himself to the next level of game design.
