Foster mum of 39 year old: 'It's addictive'

Marion Ferguson is a foster mum who adopted 39 year old Brian, who has down's syndrome, 31 years ago. She, her husband and two children were matched with Brian by the 'Be my Parent Book' when he was eight years old.

When Brian turned 18, Marion's children said "you wouldn't chuck us out" so she decided to keep fostering him. Since losing her husband who Brian was "very attatched to", Marion and Brian have found comfort in each other's company.

The family are encouraging others to do the same through the shared lives programme - a national scheme that allows people to become carers for adults with disabilities and learning difficulties.
