25 yrs in jail for wrongful wife murder conviction
Early on the morning of the 13th of August 1986, Michael Morton left his house in Williamson County in Texas, as he normally did, to go to work at a local supermarket. Sometime that morning Michael's wife Christine was bludgeoned to death in the couple's bed. Their 3-year-old son Eric, was in the house at the time. Michael was charged with Christine's murder and sentenced to life in prison. It would take 25 years before DNA evidence would prove he was innocent. His prosecutor did not disclose crucial evidence and would eventually be sentenced to 10 days in jail himself. Michael admits 'I plotted the prosecutor's murder' before deciding to forgive him.
