Lawyer: Allow Scottish jihadist student back to the UK

A lawyer representing the family of a Glaswegian university student who joined Islamic State fighters in Syria says she should be allowed back to the UK.

Lawyer Aamer Anwar said it was "bizarre" UK authorities would not want to deal with Aqsa Mahmood, 20, if she had committed crimes against Syrian people.

He said the parents of Aqsa, who was privately educated, were in "shock" and felt "betrayed" by her disappearance but have urged her to return to the UK.

David Cameron has claimed that UK nationals suspected of being involved in terror acts would be allowed to keep their British citizenship, but would be prevented from re-entering the UK for a period of time.
