Blind woman told to get her guide dog out of Tesco

A blind woman, Maya Makri, said she was left "distressed" after staff in a London branch of Tesco told her to take her guide dog out of the shop as pets are "not allowed".

She said that other customers were supporting her, but everyone "was shouted down" by shop staff. Tesco have told Maya that they would make a £5000 donation to a "charity of her choice".

Tesco Statement: "This clearly should never have happened and we will contact Ms Makri directly to apologise. We do allow guide dogs in stores and have reminded colleagues of that. We also offer customers with guide dogs help with their shopping, if they would like assistance."
