Buerk: I was 'clumsy' with Ched Evans victim comments
´óÏó´«Ã½ broadcaster Michael Buerk says he was "clumsy" to criticise Ched Evans' rape victim for being drunk - but maintained her intoxicated state was "central" to the court case.
It comes after he said on a trailer for Radio 4 programme the Moral Maze, "Nobody comes out of the Ched Evans rape case with any credit - not the victim who'd drunk so much she could barely stand, nor the two footballers who had sex with her in the most sordid of circumstances."
Speaking with 5 live's Peter Allen, Buerk said, "If people took from it the impression I was blaming the victim for the rape, that was not my intention."
"She was so drunk she was incapable of giving consent and therefore it was the crime of rape. I'm not sure whether we are in the position where subsequently we shouldn't mention that."
The ´óÏó´«Ã½ has apologised for any offence caused.
