Grimsby fish industry ‘still alive and kicking’

Ahead of the General Election, 5 live has been visiting Grimsby: the town famous for its fishing industry.

It is now a key marginal Labour seat, held by Labour’s Austin Mitchell since 1977.

In recent years, factory closures and job losses have caused some decline in the area, but the growth of fish processing plants has helped the industry fight back.

Chris Sparkes, managing director of Jaines & Son seafood, told 5 live’s Nick Garnett: “It’s the epicentre of seafood in the UK still… We’re still alive, we’re still kicking.â€
