Everest survivor: I want to stay and reach the top
An Everest climber, who survived the avalanche which tore through Base Camp, has told 5 live that he wants to stay and try and reach the summit.
Carsten Lillelund Pedersen ran for his life as the wall of snow, ice and rocks hit the camp following the earthquake in Nepal on Saturday.
He helped set up a makeshift hospital to help the injured until the first helicopters reached them.
He told 5live's Phil Williams: "Climbing Mount Everest has never been risk free, it's been a challenge" and he wants to stay.
He said: "A lot of us we still have the motivation, because we've been on the mountain in Camp One and Camp Two. We have the acclimatisation, we have the time, we have the equipment and the weather looks like the ice will be safe to walk on".
