Martin Johnson: Armitage 'out of sight, out of mind' in France
Former England captain Martin Johnson says Steffon Armitage needs to play his club rugby in the Premiership if he wants to represent the national team again on a regular basis.
Armitage currently plays in France for Toulon and under Rugby Football Union rules, head coach Stuart Lancaster is only allowed to select overseas-based players in "exceptional circumstances", such as an extreme injury list.
鈥淚f you go to France, you're not playing in the English league against English players...out of sight out of mind,鈥 said Johnson, who captained England to their World Cup victory in 2003.
"If you really want to come and play Test match rugby then put yourself in the position to play test match rugby, get into England and play".
