A fixture list compiler says creating the schedule for the football season is "a complicated thing".

Glenn Thompson sorts out more than 2,000 matches across the Premier League and Football League over a nine-month period.

"We'll always ensure that in every five games, clubs don't have more than three home and two away or two home and three away," said Thompson. "You never have more than two home and away matches in a row. Clubs can also submit requests of dates they can't play at home, maybe due to other every taking place in the area, balloon festivals in Bristol, flower shows in Shrewsbury."

"The police have their requests of who they want to play at home on certain days and other teams away," he later added.
