Coulthard on F1's 2005 Indianapolis "faulty tyre" controversy
Former Formula 1 driver, David Coulthard, said the 2005 Indianapolis Grand Prix, in which he participated, where all teams with Michelin tyres were forced to withdraw from the race at turn 13, "could have been prevented".
He was speaking to 5 live Daily as part of the 'I was there' series, about what is now widely known as ‘the most infamous race in motor sport history’.
A practice race two days before the event, kicked off a controversy over faulty tyres when Ralf Schumacher crashed in Turn 13 of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, which led to the race itself finishing with only six drivers taking part.
Coulthard, who was one of the drivers that day, said the controversy surrounding the tyres was about "driving Michelin out of the sport" rather than safety.
