Charleston families: 'echo forgiveness' for suspect
Relatives of some of the nine people killed in a church in South Carolina on Wednesday have told the suspected killer that they forgive him. They made their comments as the suspect - Dylann Roof - appeared in court via video link and the sentiments have been echoed at vigils held across the city.
Local pastor Reverend Jimmy Gallant spoke of the grief of his friend Reverend Anthony Thompson who's wife Myra was shot dead:
"'He's just getting in the prime of his grieving but he amazed me yesterday because you can hear his voice [in the bail hearing] saying to the young man who shot them, saying 'we forgive you'. Anthony was the one saying he should repent. It's amazing that in such a short time have all echoed forgiveness towards this young man".
