Asian Weddings, A-Levels and Filbert Street.
Martin Ballard sits in alongside Jo to start your day with the latest news and updates.
大象传媒 Radio Leicester has learned that Asian weddings bring a massive 2-BILLION pounds to the Leicestershire economy! Nationally, the industry is worth 拢10-BILLION to the country. That means Leicestershire contributes a fifth of that total! Big figures for an event that is big in every sense....Typically celebrated for several days, guest lists of a thousand people are the norm and - unlike in the past - young couples are now opting for lavish stately homes, eye-wateringly expensive outfits, and fine cuisine for their big day. In fact, new research by Asiana Wedding Magazine shows that Asian weddings often cost TWICE the amount of traditional British ones, with some spending as much as 50-thousand pounds to say "I do". More than 3 thousand students across Leicester and Leicestershire will be picking up their A-level results today! Many will be facing an anxious wait to see if they've got the grades to do their dream job, or to go onto further education. A record crown of more than 32 thousand fans turned out at the King Power stadium to see their beloved Leicester City take on Sunderland at the weekend. But Foxes fans of a certain vintage will remember heading down to FILBERT STREET on a Saturday afternoon - a site flattened after the football club moved out in 2002. All that remains is a patch of waste ground which today's supporters pass on their way to the shiny, glossy King Power Stadium. But what's going to happen to the old stadium site? Half the land's been built on but planning permission granted to the landowners for dozens of houses to be put up on the rest of the site is due to expire in two weeks time.
