Population, Graffiti & Eid festival
Start your day with the latest news and updates, with Jim and Jo at breakfast.
The head of Leicestershire Police says that a combination of a growing population and restricted budgets, is putting pressure on key services. According to the last census, the number of people living in the city alone has gone up by 17% in the last 10 years...that's nearly 50,000 people - the 4th fastest growing area in the UK. Leicestershire is growing by 9 people on average every day- that's more than 3000 a year. Rutland meanwhile, has increased by 8 per cent in the last 10 years.
Also, there's something really satisfying about finishing painting your garden fence, isn't there? So just imagine how frustrating it is, when the job's just been completed, and some vandal comes along and sprays graffiti on it. Well that's exactly what's been happening in an area of Loughborough, which has fallen victim to a rather persistent offender.
And, thousands of people are expected to descend on Leicester's Victoria Park this morning to celebrate Eid. Its considered one of the most important days in the Islamic calendar. And earlier this summer, the first Eid festival of the year drew a massive 8-thousand or so people to come and pray and take part in the festivities.
