Mark Group, Mental Health & Limericks
Start your day with the latest news and updates, with Jim and Jo at breakfast.
Hundreds of jobs have been lost at one of Leicestershire's biggest employers, after it announced it was going into administration. The Mark Group was founded in Beaumont Leys in 1974 and since then, it's grown - to 13 branches across the UK employing more than 11 hundred staff, 728 of them at the headquarters in Leicester. The company specialises in renewable energy - particularly solar panels, but also things like insulation, plumbing and heating. And this isn't the first time it's faced problems. Last September the firm warned jobs could be lost because of changes in government policy and only months ago around 300 posts went before they were by the US energy firm - SunEdison.Group's experience in solar energy. In a statement, the company said it had sustained heavy losses - due to what it described as "structural changes in core markets", which it has been unable to survive despite the recent investment.
Also, are you okay? It's a simple enough question and one which we often hear. But many of us probably don't really take the time to answer it honestly. Well this morning on World Mental Health Day, we're being asked to use that simple one line to start a conversation with a complete stranger. Its all in a bid to raise awareness of how quick a kind word can help lift the mood of someone who may be feeling low.
And, today is the 21st National Poetry Day and to mark the occasion famous voices are reading poems, many sharing the theme of light. We asked people to send in limericks beginning with the line, "As I walked around Jubilee Square".
