LOROS, Ambulance Services & Rutland's Roads
Start your day with the latest news and updates, with Jim and Jo at breakfast.
It's probably fair to say that the Leicestershire charity Loros has a special place in the hearts of many people across our area. The hospice has supported thousands of terminally ill patients, their carers and families for 30 years. LOROS is going to be spending 6-million pounds on significantly developing its facilities in Leicester. The charity is having its building on Groby Road extended so that it can accommodate another 250 patients a year. It will also be be building a state-of-the-art training centre too.
Also, 2015 hasn't been the easiest year for the East Midlands Ambulance Service. Now it's just got a whole lot worse. 大象传媒 Radio Leicester's found out that the troubled 999 service is now struggling with an overspend of nearly 拢9 million. And it could go even higher by the end of the current financial year.
And, four lives have now been lost on Rutland's roads in just a week. The latest accident - yesterday on the A47 - saw a woman killed when her VW Polo collided with a Mercedes in South Luffenham. The recent crashes will be discussed later by road safety experts who say they are "deeply concerned" at the increase in serious accidents in 2015 in the county. One of the people involved in that meeting of the Leicestershire and Rutland Road Safety Partnership will be senior traffic officer for Leicestershire Police - Graham Compton.
