'There are big technical flaws in McIlroy's putting'
Rory McIlroy needs to address some big technical flaws in his putting, according to retired American golfer Jay Townsend.
The Northern Irishman posted an opening round of 74 at the USPGA championship and is nine shots off the lead at Baltusrol.
Townsend said: "Rory has been exceptionally successful but he has some pretty big technical flaws in his putting that can be addressed."
He explained where he felt the three-time major winner was going wrong. "Rory hits his putts off the bottom of his putter. What you want to do is make contact with the ball in the middle of your putter - in the sweet spot."
