GCSE's, Day Centre & Dancing

Start your day with the latest news and updates, with Jim and Jo at breakfast.

More than 10,000 students are expecting their GCSE results across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland this morning. It's the last year of the current format of the exams - from next year most exams will be taken at the end of the two-year course and will be graded numerically from 9 down to 1 instead of the traditional A, B, C's etc. Dale Neal is out at a school speaking to students.

Also, there are serious concerns this morning for the welfare of more than a hundred people with learning difficulties in Leicestershire because a service they rely on could be scrapped. Leicestershire County Council is considering no longer paying for something called 'Community Life Choices'. It's a service which enables people in residential care to actually get out of their homes, meet other people and take part in activities. But County Hall says stopping its funding could help to save half a million pounds at a time when its facing its biggest-ever financial challenge.

And, if you love your musicals you'll recognise that number from Dreamgirls - Jennifer Hudson's rendition of One Night Only is the firm favourite of dancer Charlie Tatman from Market Harborough. It's a big day for Charlie - not only does he collect his GCSE results but it's also his 16th birthday. But Charlie isn't taking the conventional academic route - he's won a place at one of Britain's finest dancing schools and in a few weeks time will head to the Urdang Academy in London where he hopes to begin his journey to the West End Stage.
