‘How our family coped with being made homeless’
At least 320,000 people in Britain are now homeless, according to the housing charity Shelter. It’s a rise of 13,000 on 2017 figures and equivalent to 36 new people becoming homeless every day. Spiralling rents, welfare cuts and a lack of social housing have been cited as contributing factors by the charity.
Daisy-May Hudson and her family lost their home after being unable to afford the rent. She says her mother struggled with “feelings of guilt and shame” and the pressure of keeping the family together.
She also says the experience has made her “incredibly passionate about everyone’s right to a home”.
