And first, some good news for Cornish language and culture.

As part of the devolution deal signed last November, the council has been given 拢500,000 to help fund cultural projects

There will be money to support and promote the teaching of the Cornish language which is currently being carried out in 40 schools across Cornwall.

Community groups working to keep alive traditions such as Cornish wrestling and Cornish dance with also benefit from the funding, as will the Cornish film industry who are now producing high-quality films in the Cornish language.

One word you will hear mentioned a lot is 鈥榢ernewek鈥� which means 鈥楥ornish鈥�. You will also hear the words for 鈥榣anguage鈥�, 鈥榶eth鈥�, and 鈥榗ulture鈥�, which is 鈥榞onisog别迟丑鈥�.

In particular, there will be funding to support the work of Go Cornish 鈥� an organisation which helps teachers currently teaching the Cornish language in 40 primary schools across Cornwall.

The council said that it also wants to boost the film industry in Cornwall so that it can continue to produce works such as the short films now available on 大象传媒 iPlayer.

There will also be funding for community groups who are working to promote traditional activities such as Cornish wrestling and Cornish dance.

Councillor Carol Mould said that this was 鈥済reat news鈥� which would "help raise the profile of our distinctive Cornish language, culture and heritage".

Our next story is about a council plan to increase the number of EV charging points in Cornwall. Petrol and diesel cars will be phased out by 2035, so there is a huge need to increase the number of charging points available.

So the council has set up a page on its website which allows members of the public to nominate sites where they would like to see a new charging unit installed.

The project will be funded by a government grant of 拢5.5 million.

Words you may like to listen for this time include 鈥榚lectric鈥�, which in Cornish is 鈥榯redan别办鈥�.

And slightly harder to pick out, 鈥榰nsesow-karga鈥� which are 鈥榗harging units鈥�.

Cornwall Council is asking the public to suggest suitable places for installing charging units for electric cars.

Petrol and diesel cars will no longer be manufactured after 2035, and there is a huge need to to increase the number of electric charging units in Cornwall.

The council especially wants to install charging units in places that can be used by anyone who is unable to charge an electric vehicle in their own home. Members of the public can register their choice on the council鈥檚 website.

At the moment, there are more than 450 charging units across Cornwall, and each unit can charge two cars at the same time.

This project will be funded by a government grant worth 拢5.5 million. And, at first, the new units will be put up on council-owned land, as this will be less expensive.

And finally this week, a story about a man who was rescued from an abandoned mine after getting stuck while exploring.

The injured man was given pain-killing drugs and hauled to the surface by a specialist rescue team from Devon.

Although he had to be taken to hospital, the rescuers reported that he was 鈥渋n good spirits given what he had been through鈥�.

The Cornish word for a mine is 鈥榖al鈥� which occurs early in the story. You may also hear the Cornish name for 鈥楧evon鈥�, which is 鈥�Dewnens鈥�. And, later on, you may hear the word 鈥�shyndys鈥� a few times, and this means 鈥榠njured鈥�.

A man who got stuck in Phoenix Mine at Minions was rescued last week.

A group of friends was exploring the mine, but two of them did not return with the others and a rescue team was called in from Devon.

Eventually, one of the missing men reached the surface on his own and reported that his friend was trapped on a ledge in a shaft, 15 meters down.

The man was exhausted, and also injured, having been suspended in the shaft for a long time. So, aided by the rescue team, a paramedic went down and gave the injured man some pain relief.

He was then hauled to the surface on a special stretcher and taken to the hospital.

One of the rescuers said that the injured man was 鈥済enerally in good spirits given what he had been through鈥�.
