Since her mother's death Kathleen has formed a close friendship with 10-year-old neighbour Megan.
When Megan writes a story for Kathleen to read in front of the school, Kathleen fears revealing her deepest secret, a lifelong problem with reading and writing, and starts to push Megan away.
