Alfred Hitchcock

Alfred Hitchcock, also known as The Master of Suspense, was an English film director known for his psychological thrillers including Vertigo, Psycho and The Birds.

Born in East London in 1899, he joined Islington Studios after World War I as a title designer for silent movies. In the early 1920s he visited studios in Germany, and the influence of German cinema helped him develop his signature style.

He married his assistant director on The Lodger (1926), , who contributed on many of his films privately. They remained married until his death in 1980.

In 1962, he chose an unknown fashion model, , to star in his most ambitious film yet – The Birds. The Girl explores his obsession with her and how his controlling nature arguably ruined both of their careers.
