How did you start off in gymnastics?
When I was young, my nursery teacher spoke to my mum and asked her if she had noticed that I didn't walk anywhere and that I constantly did cartwheels. She thought it was a good idea to enrol me into gymnastics classes, which she subsequently did and that's how my life in gymnastics began.
Can you tell us about your career so far?
My career began in 1996 competing in Men鈥檚 Artistic Gymnastics representing Great Britain in three international competitions, winning titles such as British under 12 High Bar Champion and London Open High Bar Champion. In 2006 I became a coach, working in one of London鈥檚 top regional level gymnastics clubs. I鈥檝e done my best to pass on my knowledge and passion, coaching children and adults of all ages and ability. For the past seven years, I鈥檝e coached a group of regional and elite-leveled gymnasts, helping them to hone their ability and prepare them for the competition world. This has led them to multiple gymnastic achievements and they have all been selected to represent London at the National Finals.
What qualities does it take to compete professionally in gymnastics?
For me there are many, but some of the main qualities that I believe are essential are commitment, dedication, discipline, passion, character, confidence, drive and of course a love for the sport.
What kind of qualities will you need from your celebrity partner in order to train effectively?
I believe that first and foremost as this is a partner based experience, trust is paramount, and will enable us to attempt many skills that may at first seem daunting but will then progress into an enjoyable experience. I鈥檇 also like my partner to be dedicated, hardworking, courageous, driven and fun. Gymnastics is a hard sport but if you can have a laugh it will make for a more enjoyable experience.
What advice would you give young people interested in taking up the sport?
I would let them know that although gymnastics is very challenging and tough, it's also one of the most fun and rewarding sports that anyone could ever experience. The personal satisfaction that you achieve from learning amazing gravity defying skills is second to none.
What do you do in your down time?
I鈥檓 a bit of a film buff so I enjoy going to the cinema. I also love American TV shows (Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones) so I try to keep up with the latest episodes. Sport is also a big part of my life. I enjoy taking part in a variety of activities whether it鈥檚 Football, Tennis, and even enjoy a few rounds of Golf.
Who is your sporting hero?
I have a few but my main hero would have to be David Beckham. His passion and love for his sport is amazing to see and in the end he鈥檚 just a really nice and grounded person.
What song is guaranteed to get you dancing?
Although people have heard it millions of times, I鈥檇 have to say Happy by Pharell Williams.
Who would play you in a film of your life?
I don鈥檛 really know. I鈥檇 love someone as talented as Tom Cruise, but I鈥檇 probably have to get someone who鈥檚 quite young and can be comedic and silly so I鈥檇 probably say Zac Efron.
