Rachid Taha
nominated by Graham Head, Hartlepool:
'A combination or clash of decorative Arabic music with
Western industrial noise. Locra in Arabic guise in these
days of "Muslim Phobia"'
Rupert Jeffery, London:
'If the only thing he had ever recorded were "Barra Barra" from the start of "Made in Medina", he would have made the most exciting piece of music this year. As it is, the rest of the album is astonishing. Perhaps it was actually made last year, but the technicality of when it was recorded or released are inconsequential in the light of the gripping sound he makes.'
David Crossley, Brighton:
'Made in Medina clearly album of the year following a fine back catalogue (cf Carte de Sejour also)'. Also performer of the year for last one-off London concert. A truly exciting talent.
