Track: Shater Artist: Diana Hadad Music: Palestinian Chosen by: Hosni Al Alaneh (Bristol)
ÌýÌýListen to Hosni Al Alaneh and hear the track Shater by Diana Hadad (World Records, 1999)
I come from Palestine and I came to this country in 1993, as a refugee. I stayed here and I started work in a restaurant - a Grecian kebab house. I started in the kitchen cleaning dishes, and after I found out the cab business is alright and I started a Taxi business. It’s a lot of hassle in a taxi. Some people do runners, some people try to jump out of the windows, some people don’t want to pay you and you tell them - don’t smoke in the cab and they start smoking. Carrying drunk people is really hard. Sometimes people don’t like to pay - they say ‘why this? why is it £2.50 start the meter?’
I listen to music from home - I always have some records and CD’s here and I always listen to them. Most of the time I’m working night time, and day time I sleep so I don’t really have much time to listen to music at home. My favourite music is a singer called Diana. She is from Lebanon - she is a Christian Arab and she is a beautiful singer, the best singer I ever heard. This is my favourite of her song - its about people, great people, who are good in school, education and building the community.
