Anonymity in Court Friday 4 July 2003
Sexual offences involving celebrities attract huge attention in the media and in the case of rape cases, complainants are given anonymity, whereas the defendants are not.

Reputations can be destroyed even if the defendants are found not guilty - as they say - "mud sticks".
Now there are calls for victims of domestic violence to be given anonymity in court. But what impact does anonymity have on the idea of open justice and does the protection of victims of sexual offences simply perpetuate a victim culture?
Jennifer Temkin, Professor of Law at the University of Sussex and Kirsty Brimalow, a barrister and spokesman on anonymity for the Women Barrister's Association join Martha to discuss.
