Newcastle goalscorer Ayoze Perez, speaking to MOTD: “It’s a great number of goals for me this season – 11 in the Premier League, which is good.

"It's a shame I had to walk off the pitch with the injury. It’s very sore at the minute, but hopefully I'll be available for next week.

“We’re a bit disappointed because we were dominant in the first half. Let’s look at the positives – it’s an important point.”

On next week’s game against title-chasing Liverpool: “It’s going to be a special night. It’s our last game at home. They are playing for the title. Let’s see what we can do and give our supporters something to cheer about.”

Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez, speaking to MOTD: "It's a pity for us after working so hard but it's a lesson and you must keep going in these games when the other team is playing for everything."

On his future: "I said before we must concentrate on the games. If we have any news we will let you know. Now we carry on and we will see what happens in the next few weeks."

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Chris Hughton, speaking to MOTD: "That performance sums up how we've been this season. A little fragile, not creating too much and being a little bit vulnerable.

"What I can say is the reaction in the second half is what you want to see.

"When Glenn Murray had that opportunity at the end I thought we'd done it.

"We hope that goal has made a big difference but we can't afford to think that way. We have to think Cardiff are capable of winning their last two games and we must go to Arsenal thinking we have to get something."

Newcastle's 3,000 travelling fans chanted Benitez's name throughout the game.

But the Magpies boss says there is "no more news" concerning talks about a new contract.

Benitez: "We will try to do our job as professionals but they are very, very strong. We are in front of our own fans and we have to try to give everything on the pitch."

Rafael Benitez, speaking to BT Sport: "We had the control, we created the chances to score and we expected in the second half they'd be pushing.

"They were aggressive and they were fighting to avoid relegation, we needed to keep the ball better and our counter attacks were not good.

"We couldn't do the same as the first half and were not as comfortable on the ball. They were desperate to win so we need to understand the context of the game."

On his future: "We have to concentrate on the games. If we have any news we will let you know."

Chris Hughton tells Match of the Day that Cardiff City are a "very spirited team" and are "still fighting".

He hopes his side's first goal in eight games "has made a big difference".

Brighton goalscorer Pascal Gross, speaking to MOTD: "It was a very disappointing first half. We concede first, we were sloppy with bad passing, I was disappointed with myself. We had 45 minutes left to do it better and that's what we aimed for. In the second half we showed we wanted three points at the end.

"We just said we're a great team, we have to stick together and go out and do it better. Keep going, keep going and we will see at the end what the result is.

"We got back to the shape we played last year but it is about your own quality and your own mistakes, the quality on the ball in the first half was very bad.

"There was a big relief for all of us, we pushed for the second but unfortunately that didn't happen. Two games left, we will see how it ends."

Brighton's Shane Duffy, speaking to BT Sport: "Obviously it was a big second half. We weren't happy with how we played in the first half. We wanted to win the game but we keep going and keep fighting into next week.

"I think we over did it and we maybe tried too hard in the first half. In the second half we went out and played and we were straight at it. We probably deserved more than a point in the end.

"We were always concentrating on ourselves, we knew it was in our hands and it still is in our hands, we're another point away from them [Cardiff] but there are still two games left."
