Lots of smiles from Brighton fans as kick-off approaches.

There's a party atmosphere developing at the Amex.

Remember, a home win and Chris Hughton's side are all but set for a third successive season in the Premier League.

I am at the Amex Stadium for a 40th anniversary reunion with the Brighton team that got promoted to the top flight in 1979.

Newcastle were the opposition when we won promotion at St James' Park for the first time in the club's history with a 3-1 win on the last day of the season.

I know Brighton have not scored in their past seven games but I think there could be a little bit of fate involved here with the Magpies the opposition again, and this time a win would help them take a huge step towards staying in the Premier League.

    I'm going for a 1-0 home win.

I think Brighton's players have got word of Cardiff's defeat at Fulham.

They formed a group huddle on the pitch before retreating to the dressing room for last minute instructions.

A huge 90 minutes coming up in terms of the battle to stay in the Premier League.

Brighton have everything to lose. Newcastle have little to gain; Rafa Benitez has done a remarkable job steering them to safety again.

Chris Hughton will deserve similar accolades if he can keep Albion up. Relegation would be a crushing blow to his fine legacy.

The old defensive discipline returned at Wolves and Spurs, but creativity and confidence is totally lacking.

Newcastle were superb against Southampton but the previous league win at Leicester was their first away since mid-December, and players with injury doubts may be kept back for the Liverpool home finale.

Ayoze Perez is on fire. Glen Murray hasn't scored in 10 home league games. But I'll take him to crucially edge it.

    Brighton v Newcastle (17:30 BST)

A huge roar goes up at the Amex as confirmation of Cardiff's defeat at Fulham is relayed over the speakers.

Brighton still have work to do but survival is very much in their own hands.

Chris Hughton makes four changes to the Brighton side that started the 1-0 defeat at Tottenham in midweek.

Bruno is back to skipper the team while Beram Kayal returns to the midfield. There are also recalls for forward Glenn Murray, who has failed to score in his last 10 Premier League home games, and Jose Izquierdo.

Out go Martín Montoya, Yves Bissouma, Jurgen Locadia and Alireza Jahanbakhsh.

Brighton XI: Ryan, Bruno, Duffy, Dunk, Bernardo, Gross, Stephens, Kayal, Andone, Murray, Izquierdo.

Subs: Bong, Bissouma, Locadia, Knockaert, March, Button, Burn.

There are three changes to the Newcastle side that won 3-1 at home to Southampton last week - two enforced.

Miguel Almiron is injured and skipper Jamaal Lascelles is ill. Jonjo Shelvey returns to captain the side while there are recalls for Federico Fernandez and Christian Atsu.

Ki Sung-yueng drops to the bench.

Newcastle XI: Dubravka, Manquillo, Schar, Fernandez, Dummett, Ritchie, Perez, Shelvey, Hayden, Atsu, Rondon.

Subs: Ki, Diame, Muto, Kenedy, Yedlin, Barreca, Darlow.

All of a sudden, the bottom of the table makes slightly better reading for Brighton.

Will they cash in on Cardiff's defeat at Craven Cottage?

Brighton's last two games after today are at Arsenal on 5 May and at home to Manchester City a week later.

Cardiff host Crystal Palace on 4 May and, on the final day, travel to Manchester United.

Huge news for Brighton at the bottom of the table.

Relegation rivals Cardiff City have lost 1-0 at Fulham in the past few minutes.

    What does that mean?

A win over Newcastle and the Seagulls are all but safe.
