Gamerguy31: 4 wins from 14 league games. 4 points off bottom 3. only 3 teams have scored less than us in league. Our defence is a shambles and Arteta still doesn't seem to have a settled team. Then spouts percentages nonsense which mean nothing after a loss. Needs to go.

Dave, Belfast: Arteta is out of his depth, plain and simple.

Chris, Bramhall: What's the percentage chance of Arteta getting sacked tomorrow?

  3. 'Big mistake' if Arteta not trusted - Guardiolapublished at 22:38 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2020

    Manchester City

Here's more from Pep Guardiola on Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta on 大象传媒 Radio 5 Live: "They will do a huge, big mistake if they... I鈥檓 pretty sure they are going to trust him. I understand for the analysts, analyse the results. But I was with him many years and I know his incredible quality as a human being and especially as a manager, how he is involved in everything. It鈥檚 just a question of time and he will do well.

"I鈥檓 not on the board. For me they will do a big mistake if they are thinking鈥 They give him the confidence, they won two titles when for a long time ago it didn鈥檛 happen at this club. In this pandemic situation, with injury problems they have and the games they played always they played good.

"But unfortunately these games is our job and it depends on the results. But football changes in one week so quick.

"I can speak about my experience alongside him, one of the most incredible successful teams in English history we had and he was part of this success and it would not be possible without him, and to create something like this you need time like I had in my first season."

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, speaking to Sky Sports: "Against this level of opponent they penalise you and make it very difficult.

"We have a great counter-attack moment but they then score in an offside position and you end up losing the game again.

"It鈥檚 a hard one to take considering how the game went. This level of opponent, when you give the goals away it makes the game impossible. A lot of strange things are happening in every game and that makes things really difficult.

"We have to turn it around round - there is no question with the fixtures we have it鈥檚 going to decide our season.

"On the basis of what we have shown tonight against difficult opponents, I have fighters in my team. Yes, I have fighters."

Phil Foden has had a hand in nine goals in his last 12 League Cup appearances (four goals, five assists).

And 72% of Alexandre Lacazette鈥檚 goals in all competitions for Arsenal have been scored at the Emirates (38 of 53).

    Manchester City

Pep Guardiola on Mikel Arteta, his former assistant at City: "I didn鈥檛 speak with him. What can I say, everybody knows we are judged on results. He can defend himself perfectly.

"I worked with him, we cannot have had our success without him. He is an incredible manager. I know his proposals and what he will do. Not even a little run of bad results is going to change my opinion."

  9. 'The second half we had more fluidity'published at 22:18 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2020

    FT: Arsenal 1-4 Manchester City

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola on Sky Sports: "Both teams need to score goals, we score four. We changed the set-up, they score a good goal, after the second half we had more fluidity. The second goal was helped, the third maybe offside, so that makes a difference. After 3-1 it is a completely different game.

"We put another player in the position we can make it dangerous. We score a goal, we had a good moment, didn't suffer and they could not make passes in a row, but they changed, pressed better. The second half we adjusted and were a little bit more comfortable.

"The last two or three years we have scored a lot of goals and this year we struggle, but of course goals are important.

"It is good for the rhythm for the players that haven't played. For four years in a row we are in the semi-finals which is a good achievement in this competition."

  13. 'It was a solid performance'published at 22:06 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2020

    FT: Arsenal 1-4 Manchester City

    Manchester City

Manchester City goalscorer Riyad Mahrez, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a solid performance. We started good and then they equalise. We got lucky with the free-kick and then we got the third one and then it was more easy for us.

"We cannot always dominate every game. They can score at any time but in the second half we scored the second and the third and we made it more easy for us.

"I was surprised at the position of [Alex Runarsson]. He was so close to the post and luckily didn't catch it properly and that was good for us.

"We've been struggling but it's football. It's not always easy to score four or five goals. Today we score four goals and it was a solid performance."

  14. The stats...published at 22:06 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2020

Manchester City are the first team to win four consecutive away games against Arsenal in all competitions since Chelsea between 1960 and 1965 (six in a row).

Robin Best: It just seems that these players just do not want to play for the team, why would you when you are earning loads of money and not getting any kind of criticism from the manager when they play so poorly so regularly. Need to clear the lot out in Jan and start again.

Such poor line up. Do not understand why he played such a weak and mixed team when we need confidence! So much deadwood!!!!

Gabriel Jesus looked sharp tonight, looked like he wanted to play and prove a point. He looked like he enjoyed facing up to goal and driving towards the defence, rather than having his back to goal. He looked full of beans.

It's been a bit of a runaway win tonight but it's just those mistakes at key times. Alex Runarsson will not want to see that goal again. It was a comfortable win for Manchester City in the end.
