Daniel Cheng: First time Martinelli has touched the ball I think and he sets up a goal. We've missed you Gabi.

You only need one shot against Man City to score these days.

    Arsenal 1-1 Manchester City

Manchester City have just drifted off a bit. It was almost too easy for them in the first half hour but now it's Arsenal who are on top. Goalkeeper Zack Steffen gives it to Joe Willock and the Gunners almost eke out another chance.

Lacazette has the armband tonight, too. Way to lead by example.

Two fabulous balls from Gabriel Martinelli. It's the first time he's got in the game. Alexandre Lacazette has just got the other side of the defender and he's just got a free header. It's not a simple finish but a comfortable one from six yard out. First time that Arsenal have got inside the penalty area. Brilliant.

    Alexandre Lacazette (31 mins)

    How about that!

Alexandre Lacazette, down one moment, up the next to head into the back of the net.

It's superb work on the left from Gabriel Martinelli and he does really well to dig out a cross for Lacazette to attack at the back post and nod beyond Zack Steffen.

Against the run of play, but Mikel Arteta's side are level.

Now Alexandre Lacazette is down from a knee in the back from Ruben Dias. Looked a sore one. Especially on a cold night... not much of a flow to this game yet.

Nobody on that pitch is playing for the manager. The Board need to act. Arteta OUT!

    Steve Crouch, Hastings

It's only right for Jesus to score the game before Christmas.

Dani Ceballos catches a finger in the eye from Fernandinho... no VAR tonight to look at that one. Did have his hands up, the City midfielder.

  9. YELLOW CARDpublished at 27 mins

    Arsenal 0-1 Manchester City

Arsenal are collecting cards here - Shkodran Mustafi the next to find his way into the book.

Dani Ceballos the fouls Mahrez and from the free-kick City win a corner.

All a bit nervy at the back for Arsenal.

Nicola: Did anybody else have to double take when Jesus celebrated that goal? I thought he'd done a Ross in Friends with his teeth before realising it was just a gum shield.

Riyad Mahrez strikes it from the edge of the box but can only thrash his left-footed effort into the Arsenal wall.

  12. YELLOW CARDpublished at 23 mins

Gabriel Jesus is chopped down on the edge of the box by Mohamed Elneny and the Arsenal midfielder finds his way into the box.

Dangerous position for the Gunners, too...

Is there a positive for Arsenal? I was just going to say a negative! I think they have just had their best spell but when they do press - and they pressed well - they have got to commit so many people in the press that they are leaving themselves two versus two at the back - and that's a really dangerous game.

Aymeric Laporte gets up well at the back post, but the City defender's header floats wide.

Phil Foden finds those spaces between the opposition defence and midfield so well. He takes the ball on the half turn, spreads it wide to Joao Cancelo and eventually Riyad Mahrez's shot is deflected behind for a corner.

Simon Atkins: Arsenal aren't getting top 4 this season. At current rates, they're not even getting close. This cup is their best chance, and if they lose tonight, Arteta has to go, surely.

Francesca Gunn: Just when you think Arsenal can’t get any worse.

Arsenal are edging back into this, gradually. They're looking to split the Manchester City defence but just lacking that final pass at the moment.

  18. 'We want to make a new history for Brentford'published at 20:18 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2020

    FT: Brentford 1-0 Newcastle

Brentford manager Thomas Frank, speaking to Sky Sport: "It means a lot to me, the staff and the players because it's a massive step and a massive win.

"We want to be a part of creating a totally new history for Brentford, so that makes me proud but even more proud was the way we played today.

"We deserved to win the game and we played against a strong side, so I must praise the boys out there.

"I think we should've put some of the chances away, so we were not that nervy in the end.

"One of their strikers up front cost more than our front three, so we knew they could put one in the back of the net at the end of the game - but we saw through and we won."

  19. Postpublished at 16 mins

    Arsenal 0-1 Manchester City

Arsenal try to play out from the back but goalkeeper Alex Runarsson has a nervy moment and can't find a team-mate.

Phil Foden and Zinchenko are combining nicely down City's left, that's where the goal came from, but the England midfielder's pass comes to nothing.

  20. 'We've missed a big opportunity'published at 20:15 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2020

    FT: Brentford 1-0 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce, speaking to Sky Sports: "We always knew was going be difficult but we expected to perform better than we did.

"Unfortunately, we haven't done enough, so we have to accept what is coming our way and get ready for what is a huge challenge ahead of us in the Premier League.

"But I can't hide my disappointment because we've had a great opportunity to get into a first semi-final in many years. I'm bitterly disappointed and very, very frustrated at this minute.

"You genuinely believe you can score. We had one or two incidences that I didn't quite fall for us. Jacob Murphy had a really good chance but in the end, you need to have a little bit of a break in the box and it didn't go our way.

"I standby what I said when I walked in the door, I picked the team I thought was going be good enough to win the match. Unfortunately, Brentford played very, very well on the night.

"It's good to get to a quarter-final but obviously not great when you've got a great opportunity to go further, so there's a lot of disappointed people today because we've missed a big opportunity."
