Great Britain's John Gimson and Anna Burnet qualified for Wednesday's Olympic medal race in the mixed multihull after closing the regular race programme in third position.

The pair recorded finishes of fifth, first and third in Tuesday's races in Marseille and stand a good chance of securing a medal.

Vita Heathcote and Chris Grube missed out the medal race in the mixed dinghy in heartbreaking fashion. Having finished 15th and seventh in the opening two races of the day, the final two were cancelled because of the conditions.

The event now progresses to a 10-boat medal race on Wednesday, with the 2022 world silver medallists sitting outside the qualifying positions in 11th. With 65 points, they scored just one point more than Brazil's boat, who qualified in 10th place with 64.

Meanwhile, Team GB's Micky Beckett will have to endure another nervous night before he can get a shot at a medal, with the medal race in the men's dinghy postponed until Wednesday.

The women's medal race was also put back a day, but GB interest has ended in that event.

The men's kite staged two of the five scheduled races, with GB's Connor Bainbridge finishing 12th and 11th, his worst two race results thus far. He is eighth in the standings.

Team-mate Eleanor Aldridge did not start in the one women's kite race to take place, but is still second in the rankings.

British sport climbers Erin McNeice and Molly Thompson-Smith have work to do to reach the women's boulder and lead Olympic final in Paris.

McNeice finished 10th in the semi-final boulder section at Le Bourget Climbing venue, with Thompson-Smith in 19th.

The top eight climbers will progress to the final after points collected from Thursday's lead section are added to their boulder score.

McNeice's score of 59.6 points put her 4.4 behind eighth-placed Italian Camilla Moroni, while Thompson-Smith posted 9.8 from the four rounds.

Slovenia's Janja Garnbret occupies top spot, with France's Oriane Bertone and American Brooke Raboutou in second and third respectively.

Semi-final scores are scratched after the lead component and the competition is reset for Saturday's final.

Team GB divers Jack Laugher (pictured) and Jordan Houlden cruised through the preliminary round of the Olympic men's 3m springboard.

Needing to be in the top 18 to reach the semi-finals, Laugher finished third with a score of 468.30 and Houlden a place behind with 448.20.

Laugher achieved the highest score for any individual dive - and one of only two dives to top 90 points - lending credence to his quest to add another medal to the bronze he won in the synchronised 3m springboard earlier in the Olympics.

Tokyo silver medallist Wang Zongyuan was top qualifier with 530.65, while Chinese compatriot and defending champion Xie Siyi came second with 509.60.

The semi-finals are scheduled for 09:00 BST on Wednesday.

Laura Muir is refusing to be drawn on talk about her potential Olympic medal hopes, insisting all she is thinking about is the 1500m semi-final.

The Scot, who is ranked fourth in the world, coasted through her heat on Tuesday, finishing second in a time of three minutes 58.91 seconds.

It was an assured start for the Scot, who broke her own British record over the distance in the Diamond League meeting in Paris last month.

A 1500m silver medallist at the last Olympics, she batted aside any questions about whether she can go one step better this time round.

"It is so easy to think about the final, but I have got to think about the semi first because that is going to be pretty crazy,鈥 Muir told 大象传媒 Sport Scotland.

鈥淚 am really, really relaxed. I have never been in this position before as a reigning Olympic medallist. I have nothing to lose so if I can just enjoy it and stay relaxed, I know I can run fast.鈥

Great Britain's team jumping gold medallists Ben Maher, Scott Brash and Harry Charles will all compete for an individual gold on Tuesday.

Three-time Olympic gold medallist Maher, the defending champion in this event, and his horse Dallas Vegas Batilly progressed to the final despite putting one fence down.

Meanwhile, Brash and Charles, along with their respective horses Jefferson and Romeo 88, both jumped clear in the qualifying round.

Victory for Maher would see him become the most successful British equestrian at the Olympics.
