Hot water bottle bricks

By Ronnie Rees, Clydach

We didn't have any hot water bottles when we were little in the 40s. In order to keep us warm at night we would put bricks in the oven and, when we were ready to go to bed, we would take a brick each and wrap it up in a piece of cloth or put it inside my father's working stocking and take it to bed. To make the bed really warm, sometimes, we would put the brick in the bed half an hour before going up.
