The number of families headed by children has increased dramatically in South Africa.

A study by the country's Institute of Race Relations found that the number of such households has swelled by 25 percent since 2002.

The deaths of the parents are attributed mostly to Aids related illnesses.

South Africa is reported to have the highest HIV and Aids prevalence in the world.

Network Africa's Mpho Lakaje has been to the Eastern Cape, a province where child-headed families are particularly numerous.
