You need to learn a variety of development indicators:

• social indicators – such as the percentage of people who can read and write
• economic indicators – such GNI per capita
• combined indicators – such as a Human Development Index

Note: you also need to discuss how reliable these indicators are at indicating the level of development of different countries.

You should be able to explain the differences in levels of development between developing countries. Remember that a question based on this topic only requires you to discuss developing countries.

In addition, you need to discuss differences between developing countries – do not discuss differences within one country.

You should be able to discuss the causes, impact, management of a water-related disease, such as malaria. Remember to give specific named examples to gain extra marks.

You should be able to explain a variety of primary health care strategies, and and their impacts, aimed at improving health in developing countries.

Remember: you need to give specific named examples of Primary Healthcare (PHC) strategies, including the names of countries where PHC takes place.
